The sheer power that goes into the special welding or ‘forging’ process you’re about to see is awe-inspiring. The technique, used to join two heavy-duty blocks of metal together (mostly in aviation and automotive engineering) relies – as its names suggests – entirely on friction.
So you’ve got the two things you need to connect. You hold them down under pressure and in place. One piece is kept still, while the other piece is rotated at a tremendously high speed. They are then pressed together and very quickly heat up and are forged together. It’s pretty darn cool.
