There’s nothing better than a crazy movie fan theory. And we’ve got a doozy of one here. It sounds insane when you first hear it, but the more you think about it, the more and more you can see what the guy’s saying… It’s about James Cameron Titanic. And it’s EPIC.
It comes from a dude on Facebook called Matt. His main idea? Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) was a time traveler who was only there to save Rose from committing suicide and altering the timeline. Following? Crazy, right? Well, maybe… Jack agrees.
At the start of the movie, Jack stops Kate Winslet’s character Rose from throwing herself overboard. If she had’ve, things would have gone very differently…
Here’s what Matt says:
“This may seem ridiculous but think about it for a moment. If Rose jumped to her demise then the ship would have stopped to look for her. The temporary delay would lead to warmer weather and the Titanic would have never hit the iceberg. This is also why Jack made it a note to spend so much time with her, his job was to ensure her survival.”
So Jack’s from the future (maybe) – that means he wouldn’t have any currency from the time. Which explains his desire to gamble to win some and buy his ticket onboard.
AND:
– His hairstyle is not of the time, either. His rucksack? Not fashionable until the 1930’s.
– Jack tells Rose about when he went fishing at Lake Wissota in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. Lake Wissota is a man-made lake that wasn’t actually made until five years after the Titanic sank, though…
– Rose is promised by Jack that he’ll take her a roller coaster on the Santa Monica Pier. But that pier wasn’t actually built until 1916. That’s a full four years after the Titanic went down!
