Dr. Carsten Plischke of Bielefeld, Germany, thinks outside the box. He’s a vet that never gives up on his patients. Like Blade the turtle whose owner brought him in to see if his decreasing mobility could be looked at. Blade suffers from a degenerative bone disease which is making walking harder and harder. His solution? A wheelchair. But a very special type of wheelchair indeed. It’s not a high-tech answer, though. Far from it… In fact, Dr. Plischke used Lego!
Dr. Plischke told reporters: “We mounted LEGO wheels on the tortoise Blade because he had a bone metabolism illness and his shell was too heavy and he had a loss of muscles… That’s why he couldn’t pick up himself and walk any more. The bones were like rubber and the musculature had clearly diminished.”

Lego are one of the biggest tire manufacturers in the world! Seriously, sure only it number – size matters after all! But they make up to 400 MILLION miniature tires a year…
