ALS (amyotrophic laterals sclerosis) is a vicious form of motor neurone disease. Also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, after the baseball player who suffered from the condition, ALS is a wasting disorder that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. People degenerate swiftly from fit and healthy people to wheelchair-bound frail individuals who are unable to speak or swallow. It is a horrific illness of which we still do not know the cause, let alone the cure.
Luke Rheault’s mother suffered from the condition, and was in the latter stages of the disease when he and his wife, Kristeena, got married. However, this did not prevent the pair taking part in the traditional mother and son dance. With Mariah Carey’s ‘Hero’ providing the soundtrack, the two share an emotional and beautiful dance together.
