Cop Gives Up Dog; Hands Him Back To War Vet Recovering From Brain Injuries

We all know that the bond between a human and a dog can be an amazingly strong one. And having to give up a dog for any reason can break someone’s heart. We’ll see that here in this story. But this isn’t a sad tale. Quite the opposite…

Marine combat veteran Jared Heine had to give up his bomb dog Spike more than three years ago after suffering terrible injuries in combat that saw him fly home from Afghanistan with life-threatening brain injuries. Now he’s recovered and back home. But wracked with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and depression. His mom couldn’t stand to leave him like it, so decided to do something about it. She knew how much Jared loved Spike, so she became determined to track him down and reunite the pair.

But Spike wasn’t in the Army anymore. And nor was he back in the states somewhere as a pet. He was a cop dog. Alongside Virginia Capitol Police officer Laura Taylor. When Jared’s mom contacted Laura with her story, the police officer had a HUGE decision to make. But she made it.
