This glow is a chemical reaction, cutting a long story short…
It is what happens when the plankton feels its in danger, as to shock the predator or draw attention to bigger predators which could eat the planktons predators, giving the plankton time to get away, how crazy is that…
As you can imagine as this is perfectly fine to have touch your skin, it is a must dive to any scuba diver or snorkeler, as many that have no interest in the sea would love to experience this, hence many Diving Operators take advantage of these bioluminescent phytoplankton seasons, when they know plankton will be brought in by ocean currents.
