It’s rare that we ever get sentimental over a bunch of wires wrapped up in plastic, but sometimes – just sometimes – a bit of kit comes along that really strikes a chord with people. And the Nokia 3310 is the perfect example. A cellphone that hit the market a full seventeen years ago, the 3310 has true cult status.
And why not, huh? It’s magnificent. Small, light, reliable… Their batteries never ran out and they were practically indestructible. You could chuck one out of an airplane, parachute down after it and, once you’d dug it out of the earth, pick it up and call your mom, get her to start fixing you up a sandwich. And now? It’s back!
That’s right, Nokia have just relaunched the 3310. An updated – but strikingly similar 3310 is soon to hit us. Cheap and iconic, we can’t wait. If you can’t either, your appetite might be sated somewhat by the video below… The first review!
“For the Nokia 3310 we just couldn’t resist. We wanted to reward loyal Nokia phone fans and make a statement that rich heritage, innovation and modern design can go hand-in-hand,” they say.
The new 3310 is 12.8mm thick and weighs 80g (instead of 22mm and 133g). It has a 2.4-inch 320 x 240 colour screen and slimmer frame. It comes in the old colors or some nice shiny new one like those seen above.
Let the fine fellas at TechRadar talk you through the new handset and do a little compare and contrast with the original 3310…
