Get dropped somewhere on Google Street View and guess where on Earth you are. One screenshot, a whole planet, and a scoreboard that quietly ruins your evening.
GeoGuessr drops you into a random Google Street View panorama and asks a deceptively simple question: where are you? You can pan, zoom and walk down the road looking for clues — a licence plate, a language on a shopfront, which side of the road the cars drive on, the exact yellow of the road markings — then drop a pin on the world map and find out how many thousands of kilometres off you were.
What starts as a casual guess turns into an obsession fast. The community has turned reading utility-pole design and bollard shape into a competitive skill, and once you notice that Bulgaria and Romania have different guardrails you cannot un-see it.
Our verdict
One of the few browser games that makes the entire planet feel like a puzzle you can actually get better at. The free daily challenge alone is worth bookmarking, and there is a real, slightly unhinged joy in identifying rural Kazakhstan from a fence post.
The catch: The generous free play is now behind a login and a limited daily allowance; unlimited maps and competitive modes need a paid subscription.
