Want to see something really strange? How about a city… IN THE SKY. Yep, really. That’s what we’ve got for you here. And it’s a real head scratcher. The mysterious cityscape appeared in the clouds over Foshan in the Guangdong province of China. Weirder still, a similar scene greeted people in the Jiangxi province just days later too.
What on Earth is behind it? Well, some people are arguing that the phenomenon is the result of a ‘Fata Morgana’, which is basically an elaborate mirage. According to an expert who spoke to The Daily Mail:
“It’s caused when the sun heats up the atmosphere above the land or oceans, which creates a gradient of temperatures.
The air close to the surface is relatively cool and above that, there are layers of warmer air.
When light hits a boundary between two layers that are different temperatures – and as a result different densities – it bends and travels at a different angle.”
Could it be that? Or something much more paranormal? You decide.
