Lifeguards are incredibly important. Especially at swimming pools, be they indoors our out. Recent estimates claim that over 60% of all children that die from drowning, drown in pools. Another shocking statistic says that between the years 2005 and 2009, there were an average of 3,500 unintentional non-boating related drownings each year. 20% of those who died were aged 14 or younger.
So it’s not an easy job, being a lifeguard. It’s easy to get distracted in such a role too. It’s relatively low pay and many workers are either quite young or working on a casual basis. But we think they do an amazing job.
