Weighing in at over 100 pounds, Akut-3 the loggerhead sea turtle is a big ol’ boy. But even at his size he’s no match for a boat. He collided with one recently and damaged his jaw pretty badly, to the point where he could no longer eat. Things looked dire for him. The Sea Turtle Research Rescue and Rehabilitation Center in Dalyan, Turkey took him in though, feed him and got him back to health.
But in order to survive in the wild again, something drastic would need to be done to repair Akut-3’s shattered jaw. And it was. A new titanium jaw, based on the old one was 3D printed and fitted into his mouth. And it works!
